Alias: Katie/Kate Miller, "North"
Gender: Female
Rank and Division: 10th Division Lieutenant
Zanpakuto Name: Shotoukousou
Zanpakuto Level: Shikai
Zanpakuto Description:
Normal
A simple blade, with a gently curved steel blade, reminiscent of an ordinary katana. The iron tsuba contains a canine form in the design in the design. The ito is lapis-blue silk, and the silver menuki are in the form of eagles. The saya is deep, midnight blue. Kaite wears it on the belt, but the saya vanishes entirely when she draws the sword.
Shikai
Resembling an egyptian kopesh, or sickle sword, but black as night and keeping the tsuka and tsuba of a katana. Begins with a straight blade, leading into a moderate curve with the blade on the outside edge of the curve, and which ends with a straight tip, with a blade on each side. This makes it mostly a hacking weapon, but perfectly able to stab. The tsuba is iron and depicts a running wolf; the menuki remain silver eagles. Frost covers the blade, giving it an almost velvety appearance. Any cut from this blade will inflict a noticeable drop in temperature to the site of the injury; this effect stacks, eventually causing hypothermia, unconsciousness, and even death. The point at which these happen depends on the opponent, however.
"Touketsu Kaze"
Frost from the blade is scattered into the air and can be manipulated by Kaite: they can be melted into water around the opponent and used to drown them, frozen on the opponent to immobilize them, frozen elsewhere in any form to Kaite's advantage (and can still be manipulated; example: ice blade flying through the air); left as frost, can be used to irritate the opponent's eyes or as a multitude of tiny, sharp little blades.
Bankai
"Sairai Shotoukousou"
The kopesh becomes sharper and straighter, made of rippling black Damascus steel, and the blade is surrounded by the shifting glow of the northern lights. A lapis-blue tassel (matching the ito) hangs from the tsuka, and the tsuba is now highly stylized with a winged wolf in flight. The menuki also change from eagles into winged wolves. Storm clouds gather and heavy hail falls. Kaite is draped in wolf furs and is given an enormous pair of eagle's wings. Strong winds blow, which are under her control (allowing directed hail assaults, and that hail can be much bigger and more formidable than you might think). Temperature plummets. When she manipulates the wind, it howls in such a way that many enemies are momentarily stunned. Touketsu Kaze is still in effect, and is intensified to allow her to control any ice (or water, if she can freeze it first) in the vicinity.
Persona
Shotoukousou is an enormous wolf with eagle's wings. Her fur is grey with reddish overtones, with moderately defined white markings on her face and belly. She speaks in the manner of an oracle or a wise-woman: in riddles, but with a genuine concern for Kaite and with the warmth of a mother.

Weaknesses:
Kaite's zanpakuto is very weak against fire (provided that her opponent is strong enough to maintain a prolonged fight), except in Bankai form. Her powers strengthen and weaken with the seasons; in summer, Kaite's powers are relatively weak due to the heat, while in winter, she is nearly as powerful as her Captain. This is somewhat alleviated in Bankai form, but Bankai costs a lot of reiatsu. In summer, the toll is much higher than in winter, significantly reducing the length of time she can keep it up. (To be perfectly clear, Bankai is currently beyond her abilities; she is training to reach it, and it is documented here for when I eventually have her learn it later.)
As a Shingami of Lieutenant rank, Kaite is very powerful and could defeat most of the "Anomalies" without difficulty... they will become more a threat to her as they become more powerful, however; the power of a Shinigami is great, but does not grow quickly or easily. Upon deployment, her powers were sealed and reduced by 80%; she is able to release this seal if the situation becomes dire (it's going to be awesome, watch the plot!).

Other Skills:
World languages (a lot of them), hand-to-hand, swordplay (especially kendo), small weapons and projectiles. She is skilled at Kido, but isn't exactly a master. As with all Shinigami, she is reasonably skilled in the arts of deception.
Face Claim/Description:
History:
Being over a hundred years old, Kaite has a long history. She originates from the 63rd district of South Rukongai—a crime-ridden, gang-infested, lawless place where a home was hard to come by, and few who had them ever stepped outdoors. When she was twenty years of age (physically about five), her parents were killed—Kaite never found out by who, how, or why.
After their funeral, Kaite made up her mind to leave for a higher district—somewhere safer. Arming herself with a sword small enough to handle, she set out on her battle for a better life. Eventually, over the course of forty years, she fought her way up to the 23rd district. She spent ten years there, teaching swordsmanship and karate. Many of the locals couldn't fight, as it wasn't necessary here, but they generally found the fighting arts intriguing.
When she was about seventy (physically equivalent to around thirteen and a half—aging at this point slows down even more, so she'll be looking about fifteen at age ninety and stay that way for several decades or even a century), one of her best students, a boy called Sinon, had nothing to do one day and asked if she'd mind if he spent the day at her house. While he was there, the subject of Shinigami worked its way into the conversation—inevitable, really, with Sinon. He asked whether Kaite could concentrate her reiatsu like his brother could, before he left to attend the Shinigami Academy. For her, it was as easy as breathing, and she demonstrated it almost lazily. She later regretted this, as he kept badgering her to become one herself and would not leave the subject the alone. Eventually, he won out and she decided to at least apply for the Academy and began studying for the entrance exam.
Much to her surprise, Kaite tied with someone else for top marks on her first try at the exam, and she was admitted into the Academy in the advanced class. One of her classmates there turned out to be the same person who had matched her score—a forty(equal to ten)-year-old boy from 1st district West Rukongai with white hair and a frosty expression—his name was Toshiro Hitsugaya.
As they were equally matched on many subjects, they ended up spending a lot of time together. Over the six years it took to graduate, both reached shikai-level zanpakuto. Over the same time, the two of them developed a fairly close, yet still quite professional, friendship—Toshiro, of course, remained considerably closer to a graduate friend of his, Momo Hinamori.
Upon graduation, Kaite was assigned to 11th Division under Captain Kenpachi Zaraki. She never found out where Toshiro went—until she put in for transfer to 10th Division out of a dislike for a new recruit who thought of himself rather highly. When her transfer request was finally accepted, she was surprised to find that Toshiro was a month into captaincy over that very division—making him the youngest ever to pass the Captain Proficiency Test.
Several years passed and she spent a large amount of her time away from Seireitei on away missions into the living world. Between these missions, the news she got from other 10th Division members became increasingly interesting—and confusing. A ryoka invasion, a particularly concerning bit about three Captains turning traitor and Toshiro and his friend Momo both having almost died at the hands of Momo's own Captain—the mastermind-traitor, Captain Aizen.
Eventually, the action died down and the time came for new Captains to be assigned to fill the missing posts. 10th Division's Lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto, was made the Captain of 5th Division, which meant Toshiro needed to assign a new Lieutenant. He chose Kaite for the job, and her away missions significantly decreased. She has held the post for about fifteen years now, and has been sent to Lake Stevens in response to reports of anomalous humans around the area. Here, she is currently collecting data on the "Anomalies" and keeping the increasing tide of Hollows at bay. She has a loose plan to pass herself off as a college student if for some reason she has to use a gigai and temporarily join society, but how she's going to manage that in small-town America with white hair and a funky hairdo is something she never really considered, let alone if she were somehow discovered in her shihakushou and with her zanpakuto on her belt...

RP Notes:
In a word, Kaite's outward appearance can be described as frosty at best. Even though she is typically quite friendly, she tends to put out "cold" vibes, with an almost permanently furrowed brow. Despite this icy exterior, Kaite is always willing to converse with anyone who bothers to say hello. She has a distinguished work ethic—she gets her work done quickly and efficiently. Her military training has made an obvious impact on her respect for authorities, and she never questions a teacher's decision. She is quick to anger at times, and quite easily annoyed. As if in spite of this, she appreciates a good joke and enjoys a little time to relax—which can sometimes lead to laziness and procrastination when left to her own devices for too long. She plays soccer when in the human world, but never very well as she can never seem to remember the rules besides the "no hands" one—or, for that matter, that a soccer ball is not a weapon to be used to knock someone unconscious via facial contact. She never backs down from a fight, and rarely holds back. If necessary, she is not afraid to kill an opponent—thankfully, this is rarely the case. Kaite very rarely sheds tears. She is prone to violence when angry.
